Russian Energy Week opens in Moscow

October 15, 2025

Ways to address the key challenges facing the global energy industry took centre stage at the opening session of the 8th Russian Energy Week (REW) International Forum, which began in Moscow on 15 October. The event is supported by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia, and the Government of Moscow, and is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

“Energy drives economic development and creates the conditions for humanity to continue improving its quality of life,” said Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation and Head of the Forum’s Organizing Committee Alexander Novak. He noted that global energy consumption is rising, along with demand for energy resources across almost all segments, from hydrocarbons to renewables.

“Importantly, electricity demand is growing at the fastest rate,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.

At the heart of discussions at REW 2025 are the supply of energy resources to the domestic market and the development of export potential, which are the key priorities of Russia’s Energy Strategy to 2050 approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. The Forum aims to highlight the prospects of the Russian fuel and energy complex and promote international cooperation in the energy sector. The programme includes a Russia–OPEC energy dialogue, with particular attention to cooperation between Russia and Africa in the energy field. Participants will also discuss ways to build fair energy systems within the SCO and ASEAN countries. In total, around 60 business events are planned, covering topics such as international cooperation, sustainable development, technology as a key driver of the energy industry, and strategies for the development of Russia’s fuel and energy sector.

On 15 October, the Global Energy Prize award ceremony will also take place, recognizing outstanding research and scientific and technical achievements that enhance the efficiency and environmental safety of energy sources for the benefit of all humanity. For the first time, the ceremony will be held at the Zaryadye Concert Hall.

Forum events are taking place at two venues: the Manege Central Exhibition Hall, which hosts the main business programme, and Gostiny Dvor, where the Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for the Fuel and Energy Industry is also being held. The Forum is expected to welcome 7,000 participants from 100 countries.
