New prize to recognize fuel and energy companies’ efforts to develop HR capacity

October 3, 2025

Russia has created a new prize for the best employer in the fuel and energy sector to recognize the achievements that companies in leading sectors of the Russian fuel, energy, and industrial complexes have had with attracting, developing, and supporting human resources. Forty-three companies from the chemical, nuclear, fuel, and energy industries submitted applications to take part in the pilot season of the prize. The winners will be awarded during Youth Day of the Russian Energy Week International Forum. Russian Energy Week (REW) is supported by the Russian Government, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, and the Moscow Government and is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

The Nadezhnaya Smena (Reliable Shift) Charitable Foundation is organizing the prize with the support of the REW Organizing Committee. The REW Youth Day, where the prize results will be announced, is part of the Russian Youth Event Plan, which aims to promote the fuel and energy industry, energy conservation, and engineering and technical education in 2025 (‘Fuel and Energy Industry for Young People’).

“The Russian energy sector employs roughly 2.6–2.7 million people. This number encompasses the entire fuel and energy industry, including extraction, processing, and power generation. In the era of technological transformation, the success of Russia’s fuel and energy sector is predicated not only on the power of natural resources, but also on human capital. We are building the industry’s future by investing in talent development, creating an ecosystem for professional growth, and shaping a corporate culture,” Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the REW Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov said.

The prize aims to strengthen an employer’s brand, promote engineering professions, and develop human resources in key sectors of the economy, Nadezhnaya Smena Charitable Foundation Director Artyom Korolyov said. “Our prize provides an effective platform for an open dialogue between employers, the government, and educational institutions on youth outreach and training for the energy and industrial sectors. We want to inspire companies to create HR management and youth outreach programmes. The best programmes will be recognized and serve as a catalyst for developing employer talent pools and career paths for young people. The prize contenders will not only exchange experience and best practices, but will also work to enhance the prestige of engineering education and professions among young people and the general public,” he said.

Forty-three companies from Russia’s fuel, energy, and industrial sectors that are actively working with young people, developing talent, and implementing innovative HR programmes were nominated for the award.

The best employers will be recognized in four categories. The ‘Career Start’ category recognizes companies that offer comprehensive and effective career guidance and mentoring programmes that aim to attract talented professionals. Applications were submitted by EuroChem, System Operator of the Unified Power System, Rosseti North-West, Gazprom, Sibur, Rosenergoatom Concern, and other companies.

The ‘New Approach’ category recognizes companies that have introduced innovative and effective approaches to recruiting, onboarding, and retaining personnel. The nominees in this category are the Rusagro Group, EuroChem, the Rosatom Corporate Academy, YATEK, and other organizations.

The ‘HR Transformation’ category focuses on companies that have successfully introduced innovative HR management approaches and technologies that have resulted in significant improvements in business processes and increased HR efficiency. EuroChem, Gazprom Energoholding, Zarubezhneft, and RusHydro Federal Hydro-Generating Company, among others, will take part in this category.

The ‘Investing in the Future’ category is designed for companies that view employee training as the key to success and sustainable development. The nominees include Inter RAO, Irkutsk Oil Company, Rosatom Corporate Academy, and Gazprom.

HR experts and a panel of experts that includes representatives of ministries, industry associations, and youth organizations will judge the companies’ cases and programmes. The prize results will be announced on 17 October 2025 in Moscow at the awards ceremony for the winners of the Youth Day competitions of the REW International Forum, which will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.

The prize will help strengthen companies’ brand among young people, increase loyalty among current employees, improve their positions on the labour market, and develop youth outreach and HR programmes.
