Russia and Equatorial Guinea Strengthen Cooperation in the Energy Sector

April 8, 2025

The Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Roman Marshavin held a working meeting with Ndongo Ayekaba, Ambassador of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to Moscow.

The parties discussed preparations for the launch of the Russian-Equatorial Guinean Working Group on Energy Cooperation. It was noted that the decision to establish the Working Group was made on the sidelines of the 7th International Forum "Russian Energy Week." Currently, the group’s membership and the date for its inaugural meeting are being finalized.

The meeting also addressed prospects for joint projects in the fuel and energy sector. The Deputy Minister highlighted that Russian companies are keen to develop collaborative projects in the oil and gas sector within Equatorial Guinea.

He emphasized that a practical step toward strengthening the technological sovereignty of both countries could involve the implementation of industry standards set by the Institute of Oil and Gas Technological Initiatives (INTI) for equipment and technologies, alongside other international standards.
Additionally, cooperation in training qualified personnel for Equatorial Guinea’s energy sector was discussed. The Equatorial Guinean side expressed interest in developing training programs at Russian higher education institutions specializing in energy.

"Many countries turn to Russia with requests to train energy professionals. Although Russia already educates a significant number of students, the demand for skilled personnel far exceeds current capacity. We will address this issue within the upcoming Energy Working Group," stated the Deputy Minister.
